How It Started

I was born in 1963 to parents of Portuguese and English ancestry, my love for food and cooking began at a young age. When I was old enough to eat solid food, I ate what my parents ate -not a kids plate. I was exposed to a variety of flavors and dishes that broadened my palate. I watched my mother in the kitchen, eager to learn how to cook the dishes from my childhood when I started cooking for myself.
When I first started cooking, my dishes were far from perfect – dry pork chops, soupy potatoes, and gummy rice were a common occurrence. But over time, I learned about temperature, timing, and technique, and my skills improved. I would watch cooking shows on PBS, eager to learn new techniques. Eventually leading me to develop a fusion-style of cooking, blending ingredients from different countries and regions.
My friends and family would be excited to try my dishes, whether it was a potluck dish or an appetizer for a party. I use very little prepared foods in my cooking because I prefer to keep things fresh and clean. My recipe page showcases dishes made with simple, clean ingredients – the ingredients are the star of the show.
The COVID-19 pandemic took my job as a recruiter, but I found solace in the kitchen. After a few weeks of being home bound, I made a batch of the marinara sauce, a recipe I’ve been making for 20 years. The jars sold out quickly, people started asking for more flavors, and before I knew it Bulletproof Sauces was born.
Now we offer eight different flavors, all cooked in small batches to ensure consistency and freshness.
